Rep (A) Teams

Rep (A Teams) FAQ

When are competitive hockey tryouts (aka 'rep' tryouts) for Victoria Reign 'A' teams, including U13-A, U15-A and U18-A?:

Competitive team tryouts typically occur around the weekend prior to the Labour Day long weekend, with some weekday ice times leading into that weekend (during Stage 1) and some weekday ice times after that weekend (Stage 2). The weekend days may involve two ice times on Saturday and Sunday.

Historically, Stage 1 of tryouts has been held:
Aug 23-25, 2019 (Archie Browning Sports Centre / Panorama Recreation Centre)
Aug 28-30, 2020 (Archie Browning Sports Centre)
Aug 27-29, 2021 (Archie Browning Sports Centre)
Aug 26-28, 2022 (Archie Browning Sports Centre)
Aug 25-27, 2023 (Archie Browning Sports Centre)

Beginning in 2022, Stage 2 is held after Stage 1, but before Labour Day weekend.

Players must participate in the tryouts to be eligible to play on CRFMHA 'A' teams.

Where will competitive teams play?
Competitive teams will play exhibition games locally against CRD-based co-ed teams, older recreational Reign teams, and lower mainland female teams. They will also play home games against the North Island Impact, which is the only other female competitive team on the Island. Reign competitive teams have playoff games against the North Island Impact at the end of the year to determine which team travels to the BC Hockey Championship.
Competitive teams will travel at least twice each season up Island to play the North Island Impact, and twice to the lower mainland to play interlock games against Tier 1 competitive female teams. These interlock games in the lower mainland involve a condensed schedule with 4 or 5 games in one weekend. Additionally, competitive teams typically choose to participate in several tournaments on the mainland.

What is the time commitment?
Competitive teams typically have two full-ice practice times per week and games on weekends. The number of tournaments played can be similar to recreational teams, but is dependent on team goals and fundraising. Additional travel to the mainland includes two sets of interlock games and potentially the BC Hockey Championship if the team qualifies.

What is the deadline to register for competitive hockey tryouts (U13-A, U15-A, U18-A)?
July 20
